This month's newsletter highlights several development opportunities that happened or will happen across the SEND world. One of our ongoing goals as a Women's Ministry Department is to make training accessible, relevant and transferrable. If one of these piques your interest, please reach out to any of the women mentioned! This month will also see us finally launch our peer mentoring groups, Sojourners. If you signed up for this but do not receive an email by Friday, February 2nd, please email Beth!
My friend's daughter made her a mug rack for Christmas with an expression that rings true for me: “All I need is a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” This sentence definitely summarizes how our group felt at the end of a week of deep soul rest. We were so blessed by the teaching and spiritual direction of Lynn Karidis as well as the worship and teaching led by Bethany Reedy. With ample opportunity to rest, connect with Jesus, to worship and to pray together, each woman went home rejuvenated and ready to engage where God has placed her. Here are a few highlights from the women in our group:
“Best retreat I've ever been to.”
“I took a vacation in December but was still tired. But after this week, I finally feel rested after 2 years in language school.”
“I haven't had time with God like this ever in my missionary career. I needed this so badly.”
For me (Beth) personally, it was also an amazing experience. We had a very diverse group in age, life experience and cultural background and this just served to deepen our connection with one another and God. We covered topics like spiritual practices, Sabbath, loneliness and even technology. Does this sound like something the women in your area need? Contact Lynn for possibilities!
In December, several women in the Eurasia region came together to work through this module facilitated by Lori Kresge, Sherri DiVozzo and Leah Schwartz. Participant Kellie Benge had this to say about her experience: “While it is important to teach concepts, I also learned the value of using appropriate questions that stimulate thought and discussion. This more inter-active approach helped me to see that through the Holy Spirit’s working in people with different gifts and experiences, we can have a more thorough understanding of God’s Word. The idea of relational learning was modeled from different people which also gave me encouragement that there are many ways to develop an atmosphere of discussion that promotes provocative thought and spiritual growth.”
Starting Tuesday February 13th at 9 a.m. EST and running through March 6th, Alanna Brown will be hosting a new 4 week cohort on health and wellness. Each week will cover a different topic:
1. God’s heart for me and my body
4. Sustaining for life.
Join other women that are seeking a healthier life, work together to overcome challenges to health, and learn tips to deal with stress in a positive way. Interested? Email Alanna to sign up!
February's Connection Group will be a facilitated discussion with Marcie Williamson on the topic of Loneliness. This continues to be one of the largest struggles of SEND women (and perhaps most global workers). Marcie will pull aspects of her discussion from the book Finding God in my Loneliness by Lydia Brownbeck. This book is currently available on Kindle for only $2.99. Click here for a description of the book. If you have not received a sign up email, please email Marcie for one of the times below.
February 27th 9-10:30 p.m.
February 28th 9-10:30 a.m.
This year we are launching Sojourner Groups for peer mentoring, The Significant Woman online module and continuing with our Connection Groups. We are also so pleased to have Alanna spearheading an emphasis on wholistic health as well. But perhaps we are missing something. What would you like to see us address? Is there a topic you would like to see covered in an upcoming connection group? We want your input! You can connect with your field AWR or just email our team directly here
The women from across Europe will all gather together March 12-16 in Crikvencia, Croatia to hear from mother and daughter team Jan and Kate Pocklington. Lynn Jackson, our women's Europe Regional Rep asks for your prayers for this event and hopes all those serving in Europe will be able to attend. Pray this time is life giving for each woman present and gives her space to connect with God and others
For those of you planning for home service in 2018, we wanted to give you some dates to put on your calendars.
September 23-29 SEND will host two modules in connection with the Women's Development Track. These will both be hosted on our Farmington Campus in Michigan. We are excited to offer both “Mentoring Next Generation Women: Re-igniting Intergenerational Relationships” as well as “A Global Vision for Women: Engaging Crucial Issues.” Check out their website for other training offered around North America. We also have several women in SEND who could bring one of these to your field. Email Dorothy Janzen with questions on any of these modules
